Phil Attridge

Ex councillor phil rocks the airwaves
It’s not everyday that your local Councillor decides to ditch politics for a more glamorous role as radio DJ. But that’s exactly what Ex-City Councillor for Leith Phil Attridge did. Well, kind of…

Phil - who presents the Noise Up show on Leith FM every other Wednesday - withdrew his services from The Council in May last year when Labour ‘committed political suicide’ - and jumped straight on board (literally) at the station ; who are now well into their second successful year of full-time broadcasting.

‘One of the reasons I got involved is because it‘s a good vehicle for people’ Phil told the Leither. ‘There’s an awful lot of people out there that have problems reading, so if you need information, then community radio is a good medium, and it’s getting a new lease of life. A new champion for leith
The future of business in Leith looks likely to receive a positive boost in the coming weeks with plans to breathe fresh hope back into the region.

An unnamed source close to the on-going discussions between The City Council and Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (Tie) has disclosed to The Leither that ‘There is likely to be a major announcement in the coming weeks that will be of interest to the future of (business in) Leith Walk’, adding that it will be ‘revolutionary’...

The revelation is in connection with the role of the proposed ‘Leith Champion’ - an initiative which will see one individual working closely with a management team to co-ordinate efforts in the area - in an attempt to encourage dwindling trade back in to the region by ‘championing’ Leith as a destination for shoppers. The Leither understands that there is already a commitment from Tie to help towards funding the first phase of this project, and talks are still under way in which all financial options and details of how the system will operate are being looked at. This new scheme will hopefully come into effect by late September/early October and is expected to bring with it some extremely positive benefits for the trade in Leith.

Tie have also recently appointed a Customer Services Manager to help deal with all of the various issues/disputes that have, and continue to annoy traders throughout the Tram Works.
